Welfare Department

 

Social Welfare Department looks after the registry of the person with special needs. It also provides varies benefits, equipments and allowances for the person with special need for those fulfilled criteria. The department also supports Community Based Rehabilitation Centres ( CBR) / Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Community ( PPDK ) with PDK Workers, compliment by regular visit of physiotherapist and occupational therapist to certain selected PPDK.

Community Based Rehabilitation Centres ( CBR) / Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Community ( PPDK )

This CBR or PDK program is initiated by WHO, introduced to Malaysia in 1984 and subsequently to Sarawak in 1996 with the concept of the empowerment and active involvement of parents, family members and the local community in the rehabilitation of the person with special needs, through training and community development. It is hoped that through PDK the children can reach their full potential within their own communities and participate in community life. PPDK cater for all the age group of person with special needs. PPDK serves the purpose of training and rehabilitation, so that they can function better and try to be self-independent. These include Intellectual, Self-help skills training and Therapy program with the therapist.
